Regardless of your body type, we likely have a weight-loss solution for you…one that will help you achieve healthier living. From pre-procedure education to post-procedure support groups, AnMed Health provides a comprehensive weight loss program.

In most cases, patients must be 100 pounds or more above their ideal body weight or have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 40 or more. Someone with a BMI of 35 to 39 will be considered for surgery if obesity-related health conditions, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea or others, create a medical need for weight reduction and if other non-surgical alternatives have been exhausted.

Anyone who qualifies for surgery must first have a thorough health assessment. This includes diagnostic tests to identify existing medical conditions and a psychiatric evaluation or counseling.

In preparation for surgery, you are required to complete appointments with our registered dietitian and a psychiatrist who works with bariatric surgery patients. If your insurance company has approved your surgery, there may be additional prerequisite requirements not listed here.

There are several nonsurgical procedures available for weight loss and weight-related disease prevention as well. They are incisionless, minimally invasive and same-day procedures. They are for patients who have a BMI of at least 30 and have already failed diet and exercise. They are also helpful for those who do not want bariatric surgery or whose physical conditions disqualify them for surgery.

Controlling excess weight is a lifelong effort. It is important to understand that weight loss procedures are not a quick fix, and they are a major life change. But, for those who undergo a procedure, it can be life transforming. The pathway to success follows a comprehensive process with pre- and post-procedure diet and exercise programs created to help you achieve your goals.

Along with exercise, developing a healthy relationship with food is also critical for initial weight loss success and maintaining a healthy weight. AnMed Health has a registered dietitian on staff, dedicated to helping our weight loss surgery patients. Dietitian services include one-on-one counseling, nutritional classes, meal planning, pre- and post-procedure classes, grocery store tours and follow-up with patients.

You will also begin a guided exercise program. Pre- and post-procedure exercise is crucial to success. Establishing an exercise routine will aid your recovery phase.

If gym facilities seem intimidating or overwhelming, ask about AnMed Health LifeChoice Cardiac Rehabilitation Program, our on-site, cardiac rehabilitation exercise facility. With a physician’s referral, weight loss patients have access to this state-of-the-art program. Registered nurses, exercise physiologists, fitness instructors and registered dietitians will customize your plan for achieving weight loss goals.
